Origin of the fabric and pattern
This coat is made from 550 g combed wool cloth, a dense and resistant fabric, ideal for winter. The navy blue colour, inherited from the uniforms of the Royal Navy in the 19th century, has established itself as one of the most iconic shades in men's wardrobes, symbolising sobriety and refinement.
Inspiration for the silhouette
The design draws on the tradition of the Chesterfield coat, which appeared in England around 1840 and is considered the first modern coat for gentlemen. Its straight, long cut, combined with a simple fastening, is enhanced here by a martingale at the back, a detail derived from military heritage and riding coats, which emphasises the waist and adds extra structure to the silhouette. From the 1920s and 1930s onwards, this type of cut became the standard in business circles.
