Whipcord fabric has its origins in the late 19th century, when it was mainly used for military uniforms and workwear because of its incredible strength. Its name comes from its resemblance to a whipcord, due to its very tight diagonal weave. Originally made from wool or cotton, it was prized for its ability to withstand wear and weather.
