Its history began between the 19th and 20th centuries, when polo players needed to keep warm between matches. It then became popular with spectators and fans of the sport. The Polo Coat continued to be popular in the 1920s and 1930s in America, where students at Ivy League universities adopted it as a symbol of their preppy style.
