Born in the 19th century, the red coat is associated with aristocratic figures and the military world. During the Middle Ages, red was reserved for the noble classes and was worn by sovereigns and aristocrats to symbolize their power, as well as economically due to the high cost of red dye on fabrics. With the advent of the 19th century, the red coat became popular among the upper classes, the military and English fox hunters. In the specific context of hunting, the red coat is strongly associated with the British tradition of foxhunting. These coats, worn during battues, were made of thick wool and colored bright red to ensure visibility and recognition.

We decided to pay homage to this coat by making it from a classic English wool (800 g) in the traditional hunting red. The model we used is a double-breasted Chesterfield with a dark brown velvet collar.

  • We've added a waist-high buttoned martingale to emphasise the silhouette, and a contrasting purple lining that highlights the red with a touch of sacredness.
