Shetland tweed has its origins in centuries gone by, when it was used for the clothes of Scottish fishermen and farmers. Made mainly from Shetland sheep's wool, it has a rough surface with a ‘buttoned’ effect, achieved by weaving the threads to create small button-like protuberances.
We've cut this jacket in our most unstructured pattern: with no epaulettes or roulino, the sleeve is attached to the body with an ironed open seam, and a high armhole, details that allow great freedom of movement. To achieve a natural, short shoulder seam, we used the ‘Neapolitan’ production technique. The small gathers on the sleeve head are essential to fit the deltoid muscle naturally. The silhouette of the jacket naturally follows the chest and waist, then flares out into a bell shape at the hips, a style inspired by jackets from the 1910s and 1920s. In the end, we opted for a three-button jacket. With a higher fastening than a two-button jacket, it can be worn without a waistcoat.
