Heir to a gigantic small factory in the Creuse region of France, Hanzelm lived for Brutalist art, specializing in monumental Soviet sculptures in reinforced concrete. His passion had brought him to the brink of ruin, and Schneider resorted to pawnbroking.
He died a brutal death in September 2004, strangled by a rope found at the scene of the crime. Magnus unexpectedly suspected the cleaning lady, who had to dust the industrialist's collection every morning.
