The tuxedo jacket, also known as the smoking jacket, has an informal origin. The term comes from the English ‘to smoke’, referring to the jacket worn after dinner when gentlemen smoked cigars. Initially, the jacket was seen as a more informal garment, perfect for social occasions that did not require the utmost formality, such as dinners with friends. Eventually, its identity blended with that of the dinner jacket.
We decided to offer a country alternative to this classic jacket by cutting it from red cotton velvet and pairing it with tartan trousers. The structure of this jacket is inspired by the English shoulder, typical of the work of the Savile Row tailors. The special feature of this structure is that the seam between the body and the sleeve at the end of the shoulder is pushed back towards the sleeve itself, which, thanks to the rollino, adds volume to the head of the sleeve.
In dinner jacket jackets, details are reduced to the essentials: no flaps on the pockets, no openings, so we took the liberty of adding one of the linings printed with Massimiliano Mocchia di Coggiola's designs, made from pure Italian silk.
