Tweed and velvet sports jacket

Tweed has historically been used for all garments that need to withstand abrasion and frequent use. The use of a smooth velvet collar dates back to the origins of the sports jacket in England in the 19th century. Because the collar is a sensitive area, tweed would have irritated too much and worn out more quickly, so they started using this contrasting material.
We decided to use a classic tweed pattern: houndstooth, or ‘herringbone’, with a grey base and black pattern.
We cut this jacket in our structured Roman pattern:
a lightly structured shoulder with light padding; to give a squarer shape to the shoulders, the seam between the body of the jacket and the sleeve is pressed open on the roll, which is shaped to give a naturally square continuation to the sleeve.
The silhouette of the jacket is ‘hourglass’ shaped, increasing slightly in volume at the shoulders to fit snugly at the waist and widening at the hips. This silhouette is inspired by jackets from the 40s and 80s.
In the end, we opted for a 2-button jacket, which is sportier than a 3-button.
